Standard Sizes

Doggy Solutions™ recognizes that a “One Size Fits All” dog and puppy potty does not address the needs of many dog owners. Therefore, we offer five standard dog litter box sizes. The following criteria should be considered when selecting a potty size:

  • Size and number of dogs using the potty.
  • Space available.
  • Current habits of the dog(s).
  • Sex of Dog(s) – males typically like to have more space.

Proper size selection can contribute to a successful potty or housetraining experience. The table below provides recommended potty size guidelines based on dog weight. The dimensions stated are the outside measurements of the box frame and apply to all models. All box frames are approximately 4” high. If space permits, a dog potty one size larger than indicated is recommended for multiple dog families.

Elevated Canopy Model
  • DS-59 (1)Designed for unprotected outdoor patios, balconies, terraces and decks.
  • Unlike any dog or puppy potty product on the market, this model provides protection for your pet when he needs to “do his business” and it is raining or snowing.
  • Plexiglas panels are inserted on three sides and an attractiveSunbrella® canvas canopy securely fastens over the unit like a roof.
  • Helps protect your patio or deck area from misdirected accidents by your well-intentioned leg-lifting male.
  • Typically not recommended for dogs weighing more than 50 pounds or for very tall dogs. The sides/roof of the Small, Medium and Large size units are 27” high and the clearance into the unit is 23”. Many large breed owners solve this problem by purchasing the Low Profile model and using a patio umbrella or awning to protect the potty from the elements.
  • An optional weather protection flap made out of the same durable Sunbrella® fabric is available for an additional charge. This flap can be snapped over the fourth (open) side of the potty when a bad storm is expected. The flap should be considered when the potty is to be placed in a windy area.

Construction Materials

We understand our clients want their outdoor or indoor dog potty to blend with the surrounding environment. We, therefore, offer most models and sizes of the Pet Patio Potty™ in three different construction materials: White Polyethylene, Black Polyethylene or Tigerwood.

High Density Polyethylene (HDPE)

  • Available in black and white.
  • Durable material similar to that used to make commercial cutting boards.
  • Sleek, clean, contemporary styling.
  • Rugged material that stands up better in harsh outdoor climates where the potty is exposed to UV light as well as rain and/or snow.
  • Black HDPE blends well with wrought iron furniture.

Tigerwood

  • DS-88Constructed of architectural grade wood finished with exterior, marine-grade polyurethane.
  • Popular for areas where a client is trying to blend the potty with an environment having wood accents.
  • When placed outdoors, the tigerwood potty, like other outdoor wood furniture, will weather over a period of years and should be periodically refinished.
  • Made with black HDPE insert trays. The HDPE trays stand up better to urine exposure and to the rigors of cleaning.
  • Best for indoor or somewhat protected outdoor use.

Custom Made Dog Litter Boxes

Although Doggy Solutions™ has attempted to anticipate the needs of our clients and their high-rise hounds by offering a broad line of dog & puppy potty products, we realize there may be a situation requiring custom work.

Please complete our Inquiry Form if you have a special need not met by one of our existing models. We will respond by making recommendations including a price quote.

Featured below are photos of some of our custom pet potties including a description of the client’s specific need and the resulting custom solution.

Examples of our Custom Work

Walnut Construction Material

An interior design firm in Arizona contacted Doggy Solutions™ to help with the design of an indoor area. Their client had hired them to create an indoor area consisting of plant material and rock that integrated a dog potty in the design. The firm asked us to design a sleek low profile potty made out of walnut to match the accents they were using in the surrounding area. We designed a custom-sized walnut unit with large trays to hold K9Grass™. To keep the look of the potty clean and sleek, we incorporated finger pulls to facilitate tray removal rather than using our standard metal tray handles.

Custom Design for Area With Drainage

An individual client in Denver had a tile patio with drainage. She had previously placed a large piece of artificial grass directly on the tile area, but because urine was trapped between the grass and the tile, the associated odor was unacceptable. Doggy Solutions™ built a shallow box frame having a perforated aluminum bottom. A large piece of K9Grass™ was cut to fit the frame and was placed directly on the perforated aluminum (i.e. no insert trays were necessary). Polyethylene feet were added to the box frame to raise it an inch or so above the tile surface. This space allowed for water flow and drainage and permitted the client to hose down the potty and clean the K9Grass™ directly in the potty frame. This design, along with the antimicrobial properties of the K9Grass™, minimized odor development in the area.

Custom Cat Litter Box

A client in San Francisco needed a litter box structure for her two cats that could hold a standard cat litter pan and be placed on her patio directly adjacent to a pet door.  She wanted her cats to have access to the potty through the door, but not to the rest of her patio.  We constructed a modified Elevated Canopy model that had the exact dimensions of the cat litter pan she intended to use.  We made the side panels out of white high-density polyethylene rather than the standard clear acrylic because the client was concerned that her cats would not like to see beyond the structure.  These side panels made the unit more similar to a conventional covered cat litter box. We also incorporated a litter guard to prevent litter from being kicked between the litter pan and the potty structure. Finally, the height of the box frame had to be adjusted to accommodate the height of the pet door.

Alternative Construction Material for Indoor Male Model Panels

The panels for our standard White and Black HDPE Indoor Male Models are made out of white and black polyethylene, respectively.  The panels and trays for our standard redwood Indoor Male units are made out of black polyethylene.  However, if a client feels that a different material will better match his decor, Doggy Solutions can modify our Indoor Male model design in the following ways.  Redwood units can be made with white rather than black panels and trays at no additional charge (see photo below). After you place your order, simply call or email us to let us know you would like white rather than black. Also, any of our Indoor Male units can be made with clear acrylic panels.  There is an additional charge when this material is requested.  The charge varies based on the size unit ordered.  Please call for a quote.  Keep in mind that the clear acrylic material is more fragile than the polyethylene material.

Outdoor or Indoor Dog Potty for Commercial Use

Our commercial model dog potty is designed for the doggie daycare environment. The frame and trays of these custom units are fabricated from high-density polyethylene and, when necessary, the tray bottoms are composed of perforated aluminum. We custom fabricate these commercial units to meet your particular space requirements. These dog potties are perfect for dog daycare facilities having no outdoor exercise area or those operations catering to small breeds. Having an indoor potty option can be the ideal solution on those brisk winter days when the little pups prefer not to brave the cold weather.

I just wanted to let you know how pleased we are with the potty. My husband was able to set it up in a less than an hour. Deb (Hillard, OH)

Examples of our Commercial Work

Custom Side Panels

A dog daycare facility in the Los Angeles area asked us to build several potties for their new operation. They specialized in small breeds and had no outdoor potty area for their canine clients. They needed a potty for each separate room and wanted to place the units in corner locations. They wanted to give their furry clientele maximum access to the potty, but also wanted to protect the walls from leg-lifting males. They asked us to build Indoor Male units with panels on two sides rather than three.  They also wanted the side panels to be interchangeable (i.e. able to be used on either the left or right side).

Dog Daycare Operation with Large Dogs

Custom-09A doggie daycare operation in Ohio felt it would be helpful to have an indoor potty area during the harsh winter months. They catered to both large and small breeds so they wanted to assure that the potty system could accommodate substantial weight. Doggy Solutions™ built two Large Low Profile units with trays having perforated aluminum bottoms. The units could be used separately or could be pushed together to make a larger potty area.
